Meet Your Guide
Captain Owen Koch (pronounced “Cook”) is a native of the Washington, D.C. area who has spent nearly four decades fishing the Potomac River. After retiring from the Army in 2024, he started Capital Blues to share his passion for fishing in the backyard of our nation's capital. Captain Koch is a licensed Coast Guard Captain, and when not out on the water spends his time hunting, cycling, and studying local history.

Capital Blues Fishing Charters is the premier fishing guide service in Washington, D.C. waters. We distinguish ourselves through three lines of effort:
1. Teach and Inspire through sharing fishing tactics and the local history of the river and its surroundings.
2. River Stewardship through targeted invasive species removal and responsible fishing practices.
3. Community Support by, with, and through Operation Vets With Nets, New Hope Housing, and other local forces for good.
